WORLD DAY OF PRAYER

The Sisters of Divine Providence participate annually in this international ecumenical Christian laywomen’s initiative. This year, due to the pandemic, they were unable to gather with women in a local church so they held the prayer in the convent chapel. About 50 Sisters were transported to the host country, Vanuatu, by the decor and photos projected during the celebration prepared by women of Vanuatu.
One of the goals of the annual event is to learn about various countries. Several Sisters took part in sharing information provided about this island nation in the South Pacific that enjoys tremendous natural beauty yet suffers much from unequal distribution of resources, lack of safe water and limited educational opportunities. They showed their solidarity with the women of Vanuatu by contributing to projects aimed at confronting some of the problems of this nation. Primary among these are training for women and young girls, education of children and activities to lessen isolation and exclusion.
