The Church of Christ on mission in the world

In preparation for the centennial of the promulgation of the Apostolic Letter of Pope Benedict XV which gave a new mission thrust to the Church of his era, Pope Francis has proclaimed the month of October 2019 ‘the extraordinary mission month’ “in order to encourage the ardor of evangelization activity of the Church to the world.”
In his message to the director of the Universal Mission, the pope emphasized that the Lord’s command “Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to all of creation” (Mk. 16:15) is not an option for the Church: it is its “obligatory task”, since the Church “by its nature is missionary”. (Joy of the Gospel #268)
During this missionary month, we can remember the men and women of faith who are witnesses of limitless openness, of a life given in love. We can’t help but call to mind Jean Martin Moyë, founder of the Sisters of Providence, a tireless missionary who followed with trust the way that Providence called him.
The Sisters who follow his inspiration are creative in responding to the call of the universal Church and the world. To read some testimonies of some of these Sisters on mission on different continents, click on the links below.
